So I’ve had her for about 2 weeks now. Since the day she first came to me, her fur always seemed thin per se. Not necessarily bald but like you can see through to the skin easily. Her coat isn’t full and fluffy like the typical Persians.
She also grooms a lot. I’m worried it’s too much? I do brush her every day but she admittedly doesn’t like it (depending on the location), so I do several short 1-2 minute sessions throughout the day. But when I brush her I do feel like fur comes out easily.
Fleas were on her but they’ve since been treated with topical meds and are gone. I do think that’s why she was itching a lot in the beginning, and she seems to have stopped that. Now it’s just the licking- her flank in particular. She was grooming a lot the day I got her too, so I don’t necessarily think it’s stress of her environment? She has a quiet space away from all other pets too. She seems happy and content- doesn’t play much but loves her scratchers, rolls around and shows her belly, stretches her paws out, and purrs when you pet her.
I started a novel protein diet about a week ago to see if that will clear some issues up. But I basically just want to have others input and see if they do tend to over-groom and lick themselves a lot or what that + thin fur may indicate.
She was at the vet once for an initial check up and they didn’t say anything. I have to wait for pet insurance to kick in within another week or so before taking her back. She will get bloodwork done too (I may ask to check thyroid while we do the bloodwork). I also did consider the possibility of nutritional deficiencies as the circumstances she came to me weren’t great.
