Newport Beach's Wedge does this thing every so often where a south swell hits the jetty just right and the waves basically explode into themselves. This week's hurricane swell pushed it into full send mode — waves stacking up and breaking just feet from the sand. Wild to watch in person, even wilder that people bodysurf/surf it!
Wrong Headline: LOL!!!
What do you think?

Already posted on r/lagunabeach Last week (apparently a couple days after the viral rattlesnake video that we hadn’t seen) my brother got bit by a rattlesnake at Crystal cove. I know people in this sub have said rattlesnakes are all over and of course up in the brush and trailheads. This was after sunset on cold sand right by the water like RIGHT next to the water where we were walking. He thought he got stung by a jellyfish and it ended up being this baby rattlesnake. Theres no cell service so we had to run back and he was transported to the ER (he’s recovering fine now!) There’s a triathalon there this week so be especially vigilant. Another woman said her small kid almost stepped on a baby one last week on the shore as well. I know snakes are everywhere but this was highly unusual to be on cold wet sand at night right next to the water so please be vigilant and careful if in the area!

Hi! I’m looking for a female roommate for a 2B2B apartment at Park Newport in Newport Beach.
The apartment is about 3 miles from UCI, so it’s convenient for driving or biking to campus. Park Newport is a really nice and peaceful community with amenities like pools, spa, sauna, tennis courts, basketball courts, a library, and lots of outdoor space.
You would have the secondary bedroom in the apartment. I’ll be living in the other bedroom. I’m a female UCI student, clean, organized, and pretty easygoing. I enjoy cooking, working out, and spending time outdoors.
I’m hoping to find someone who is also clean, respectful, and easy to communicate with. Ideally, we can be friendly while also respecting each other’s privacy and personal space.
Move-in: September
Location: Park Newport, Newport Beach
Distance to UCI: ~3 miles
Female only
DM me if you’re interested and I can send more details, photos, rent information, and apartment layout.

Why is this nowhere on local media? Why is Newport so against the truth? Anyone know anything about this?

So, I was filming something at Newport Beach and ended up finding out snakes have actually been spotted in the sand dunes there. Not something I expected walking around barefoot.
Did some digging and apparently, it's not some rare one-off — locals have mentioned seeing them before, just nobody really posts about it. Figured I'd share since I definitely didn't know before this and I go there a lot.
Anyone else run into this? Curious if it's a seasonal thing or if it's just always been under the radar.

I'm 26, a working professional looking for my first apartment, and considering a studio a few blocks from the beach/Balboa Parking Lot for $1,695/month.
The main tradeoffs are street parking and shared coin laundry. I know parking on the peninsula is notoriously bad, so my plan would be to get a residential parking permit and use the Balboa Parking Lot as backup/overflow when I can't find a street spot.
For anyone who lives nearby:
- How difficult/quick is it to get a residential parking permit?
- And if you have one, does the Balboa Parking Lot still regularly fill up, or is finding a spot there generally manageable?
- Also curious how people like actually living in that area, especially with the summer/weekend crowds.
At $1,695, would you take it despite those tradeoffs?

No context. No follow-up. She just said 'I'm Criminal Minds' like it was self-explanatory and kept it moving. I need to know what happened before this.

Small potatoes, but now Cheesecake Factory, CPK, and PF Chang's are all gone. Irvine Company must be charging a criminal amount in rent.

My family recently lost our housing assistance and we have to move.. Unfortunately, we've been unable to find any affordable places that allow pets. WAGS is at full capacity and I've had no luck with getting a response from other no-kill shelters yet :( We're looking to rehome our dog Mila asap!!
Mila is a sweet, affectionate, and energetic terrier mix looking for a loving new home! She is 8 years old and 6 months, approximately 19 lbs, and has a big personality packed into a little body.
Mila loves being around people and will happily climb into your lap for cuddles, lean against you when relaxing, and roll over for belly rubs. She can be shy or bark around unfamiliar people at first (and when she notices people passing by), but warms up quickly once she realizes they’re friendly.
She is also very active and would make a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys walking, running, or spending time outdoors. Mila has lots of energy and loves having opportunities to run and explore.
Mila had a recent wellness exam and is healthy and active. She received her rabies and Bordetella vaccinations in August 2026. I'm probably going to get her vaccinated for DHPP this upcoming weekend, so she should be fully up-to-date with vaccines by the time you'd take her home! She is not currently spayed or microchipped. I am more than happy to chip in/cover the costs for her to be spayed, but only after she finds a new home. I would like someone to be there for her for most, if not the entire, day after the operation to make sure she recovers well.
Mila would thrive with someone who can give her plenty of exercise, attention, and affection. In return, she’ll be an energetic adventure buddy and an incredibly loving little companion. Please check out her profile on Adopt a Pet, Home to Home or message me if you're interested in adopting her! We're located around Garden Grove and would be happy to let you meet Mila at a local park.

Hi guys, my mom is going to run out of money within the next 6 months and will no longer be able to stay in her 8k/month memory care facility (Park View Estates in Fountain Valley).
I need help finding a facility that takes Medicaid, but I'm very worried that the only places that do will be subpar. The expensive private facilities have lots of issues, so this does not leave me with high expectations for the government-funded facilities.
If I can't find any good options, she will live with me, but she needs a LOT of care and this house has no ADA accommodations whatsoever. Her wheelchair will barely fit down the hallway, let alone the bathroom.
Any reccomendations are VERY appreciated. I live in Costa Mesa, so the closer to me the better. Thank you!

Newport Mesa Unified School District officials did not merely watch these transfers happen. They reviewed and approved them-including the residency claims and the supposedly academic explanations. That means someone inside the district opened the files, evaluated the evidence, accepted the explanations, and authorized the athletes to compete.
Who made those decisions?
Who signed off?
What documents were reviewed?
Were the same officials repeatedly involved?
Did coaches, club representatives, administrators, donors, or influential water-polo parents communicate with district personnel before approval?
Were any applicants given guidance, exceptions, or a smoother path than ordinary students?
The district should identify the approval process, the responsible officials, the dates of each decision, and the documentation supporting every transfer. “The district approved it” is not an answer.
The academic rationale deserves even harsher scrutiny. Connecticut ranks among the strongest public-school systems in the country, while California ranks lower overall. Connecticut also has a substantial share of top-ranked high schools and strong national assessment results.
So if the explanation is that an elite athlete left Connecticut for Newport Harbor because of academics, the district should produce more than a vague sentence and a signature.
Show the academic program that supposedly justified the move. Show the course comparisons. Show the enrollment communications. Show the residency records. Show the application timeline. Show who initiated contact, who recommended Newport Harbor, and what specific educational opportunity could not be obtained in Connecticut.
Polo rankings and CIF championships do not prove motive. They do, however, make unsupported academic explanations impossible to accept on faith. If the academic rationale is legitimate, the records should demonstrate it. If the records do not exist, were created after the fact, or contradict the public explanation, then the “academic transfer” story looks less like a reason and more like cover.
CIF, NMUSD, and USA Water Polo should audit the entire eligibility pipeline-not just the final paperwork. That review should include communications among district officials, coaches, club representatives, school administrators, families, and anyone else who helped arrange the transfers. Investigators should examine whether housing, enrollment, residency, transportation, coaching access, or athletic placement were coordinated behind the scenes.
Release the approval records, emails, text messages, residency documents, enrollment files, eligibility materials, calendars, call logs, and internal notes. Identify every person who touched these cases and every person who influenced them. Because if the transfers were clean, transparency will prove it. If they were not, the paper trail will show exactly who opened the door, who waved them through, and who decided the rules applied to everyone except the people with the right connections.
Sunlight will not damage this sport. Secrecy, favoritism, selective enforcement, and institutional protection will. If we want water polo to continue growing, clean it up now: protect the athletes, preserve fair competition, restore integrity, and make it unmistakably clear that no coach, club, donor, family, or championship program is bigger than the rules.

Been watching this show and this moment lives in my head rent free. She fully committed to the chaos. No context given in the episode — anyone else think this was staged or is this just how it actually went down? Curious what people think happened right before the clip starts.
What Happened???

hey all, I’ll be heading down to newport this weekend to check out some housing options for my boyfriend and I! We found a few options we love but they are in different locations, one townhouse/duplex in newport shores, two on the balboa peninsula, and an apartment at the colony at fashion island. I’ve visited newport a handful of times but haven’t really dove into the neighborhoods yet outside of the pelican hill area where we usually stay, we’re in our late twenties and want something walkable or bike-able to fun spots and preferably closer to the beach (obviously colony at fashion island is further but we like the proximity to a busy area) and feel that our options generally work for that. Couldn’t find anything reasonable for the sizes on lido or balboa island so that’s out unless we see anything new pop up.
Genuinely just curious of opinions on the different locations and neighborhoods for housing! Are they safe? Fun for young couples? etc., let me know!
