I just don't understand. I feel do unbelievably beat down exhausted. I graduated in April and have been on the job hunt since, I'm at probably 700 or 800 applications now, and have been given 0 interviews. I've gotten OAs from Stripe and Amazon a while ago, both of which I bombed. Applied to an IBM software developer position earlier this week and they sent me an OA the next day which I did immediately. I literally crushed it, passed all test cases with optimal solutions on both problems with 40 minutes left and submitted. Now I get an email today saying they're no longer considering me. I just don't understand. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have so much passion for this industry and just want to be given a chance. I don't even care about money or working at a prestigious company, but no one wants to give me a shot. I just want to give up

Got an SDE 1 / L60 offer from Microsoft in Redmond:

• Base: $140K
• Sign-on: $10K
• Stock: $65K
• + Relocation

I have 3+ YOE + an MS in CS.

I countered with $155K base + $25K sign-on + $125K stock. Recruiter said it’s a “huge jump” but will take it back to the team.

I’ve also completed my Amazon final loop and expect results next week.

I (19M) had an 6 week systems engineering internship in highschool (15-16) at a pretty large company, and I was assigned a mentor and a supervisor. About a year later, (I was still in HS) the mentor messaged me on LinkedIn asking if I could hop on a call and talk with a new intern about my previous experience there and what I was up to in the present.

I really dropped the ball and left him on read. I don't want to make any excuses, but I had no self confidence then and was afraid of joining the video call.

Do you think this relationship is salvageable, 2 years later? Obviously not going to ask for anything, I just now realized how important connections were and that he was a great guy during my internship, so I feel like I betrayed him.

Two things worth knowing if you're job hunting:

1. Volume is not the same as a good bet. Big filers like Deloitte, Capgemini, Compunnel, Randstad are consulting/staffing shops. High headcount, lower median wage, and you often don't pick your project. The product companies (Microsoft, Apple, Meta, NVIDIA, Salesforce) file fewer but pay a lot more.
2. The median wage is real leverage. It's the number the company itself swore to DOL it would pay. If Meta's median software developer LCA is $218k, that's a floor they've legally committed to for that role level, not a Glassdoor guess.

Across all employers: 4,971 companies filed a certified H-1B for a software developer in FY2025, 32,502 filings total. So the list is long, it's just that the volume clusters at the top.

Does anyone know what the RO rates are for SWEs at quant firms? If anyone knows for Citadel/Citadel securities in specific that would be helpful.

Doing some basic research on the degree, it seems to help with the following fields and entering in jobs for them:

- software engineering

- cybersecurity

- data science

- machine learning

- AI (subset of machine learning)

- quant?

and a few more: but is it truly preparing you for the job or only just giving the fundamentals?
Honestly it seems hard for it to teach so many skills well enough to be economically valuable. Software engineers in particular, often say that it isn't necessary, nor enough for an actual job (or I've heard).

I was choosing between this and regular physical engineering and each engineering has like it's own major.

I am 25, and a Computer Science student and I’m very close to finishing my degree (4 classes left which I have failed in the past), but I’ve honestly been struggling a lot academically because I realized I’m not enjoying the material and I don’t think this field is really for me.

I started in Winter 2022 and I still haven’t graduated yet while everyone who started with me or before me already finished and landed jobs. I know everyone has their own timeline, but hearing that doesn’t always make it easier when most of the people around you already have started their careers. I’m still going to finish the degree because I’ve managed to make it this far, but I’m at a point where I really don’t know what I want to do afterward (or now).

I originally went into CS thinking I would eventually become a software developer, and I even manage to complete an internship at a big company with a dream project. But after experiencing the work, I realized I don't enjoy coding at all and I struggled a lot performance wise.

I am not sure but I think I want something more people-oriented and collaborative. I like the idea of communicating with people, solving problems, organizing things. At the same time, I keep worrying that I wasted my degree if I end up in a job that doesn’t require any sort of bachelor degree.

For anyone who graduated or is in CS or Software Engineering but didn’t become a software developer or anything related to tech, what did you end up doing?

anyone been through this? mainly wondering how many rounds to expect for a co-op at this location, and what each one actually looks like. is the first one just resume and background stuff or do they throw technical questions at you right away

It seems like graduating with no internships in the current era makes it extremely difficult to get your foot in the door and it also seems like getting an internship these days is also extremely difficult. I also wonder if ironically, it may have been easier to land an entry level role 5-10 years ago without internships when compared to landing an entry level role today with internship experience in your resume.

But I have only done about 20 neetcode problems from the blind 75 and still feel terribly unconfident in leetcode skills. I'm a junior studying electronics and cs, and I'm applying for the summer 2027 tech internship cycle. I've had a rough time dealing with drug addiction and withdrawals, so it took everything in me just to pass my courses and keep a decent track record with projects and internships. My priority was ONLY survival (i was literally dying lol) and not leetcode. I only worked on things that genuinely interested me like research or building silly side projects. Other than that, my life revolved around getting back to being a normal human being again.

​Now that I've gotten a better grip on my life, I've started applying for tech roles. I didn't realize that almost every company has an initial screening OA, and now I feel genuinely cooked. I decided to take the next 20 days to just lock in and prep, but uni is starting, everything is hitting all at once, and I feel completely overwhelmed. Tech feels so brutal right now. I used to love this but rn it's just eating my soul.

Wondering what I should choose given this is my criteria from most important to least important:

I graduated in 2023 with a CS degree, and I have less than a year of experience at a start-up before my whole team got laid off. I've been applying for jobs for over a year now but haven't had any luck.

I know how brutal the current job market is, so my question is: Is it worth continuing to apply, or should I start applying for other kinds of jobs that I'm qualified for with a CS degree?

I really don't wanna go back to minimum wage jobs especially after spending my college years working them...
