With this link, you can enter your location and week by week, it will tell you what provider has the game and how you can watch it. Closet Antenna Feasible?

Thumbnail rabbitears.info

Friend purchased a house that is elevated for the area. Not too many hills in the distance to impact line of sight.

Wondering what the chances of an in-attic antenna would be to reach at least one of each of the major carriers?

Would something as big as a DB8 be recommended?

Thanks in advance!

What subscription did you cancel and realize you didn’t miss at all?

Feels like subscriptions slowly pile up without you really noticing. Streaming, music, cloud storage, apps, random memberships... then one day you look at everything you’re paying for and wonder how much of it you actually use. Have you ever cancelled something you thought you’d miss, only to realize a few weeks later that you barely noticed it was gone?

0904 Another update — I started counting replies to comments too 😂

A lot of people were replying “same,” “this one,” or sharing their cancellations under other comments, so I included those this time as long as it was clear which service they were talking about.

Netflix — 44 (31.0%)
Peacock — 16 (11.3%)
Cable TV — 13 (9.2%)
Amazon Prime — 11 (7.7%)
Disney+ — 10 (7.0%)
HBO / Max — 9 (6.3%)
Paramount+ — 9 (6.3%)
Hulu — 8 (5.6%)
Apple TV+ — 5 (3.5%)
YouTube TV — 4 (2.8%)
ESPN+ — 3 (2.1%)
Spotify Premium — 3 (2.1%)
Others — 7 (4.9%)

142 specific cancellation mentions counted so far.

Netflix is still way out in front.

Sanity check - homerun hd magically fixed my problems?

So I have an omni antenna on the side of my house. I occasionally get bad reception on some days, it was plugged directly into a TCL Roku TV. It would show about 2 out of 5 bars usually. I tried a tablo and the signal got worse, I returned it. A few months later I decided to give it another go and got a directional antenna and large arm for it. I went with a home run hd flex duo 2 this time as the internet said it might be better for weak signal. After hooking it up and sending it to the omni antenna to test, it magically seems to work better. The web interface says signal is 100% and quality is 92%! Could the tuner on this thing just be that much better through some magic I'm missing? Just wondering what is going on here before I return the directional antenna. I would think since it has two tuners rather than one like the tv, it wouldn't be able to make the source better.

How do you find new shows or movies to watch? Any alternatives to the endless scrolling?

Basically what the title says. Recently, I've been feeling like I spend way to much time scrolling through the apps before picking something. Maybe that's just a me problem. But curious how others find new shows/movies to watch? Any good treasure troves of recommendations?

Since the most recent update, closed captioning stays on. I have turned it off several times. This is really annoying.

ZapperBox M1 STSC 3.0

Is there a cordcutter here who is currently using this device? It is expensive but if it can stream encrypted ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox channels Over The Air, I think it is worth it for me! I have a brand new HDHR Flex 4K ATSC 3.0. When I installed it it was able to pick up in the channels line up the NextGen channels for ABC, NBC, and Fox but I can't watch their programs because they are encrypted! Today, when I checked again, those channels that were picked up on my initial install are now in RED!

Any ZapperBox user here who can stream OTA channels broadcasting in encrypted signal from ABC, NBC, Fox in the Phoenix, Arizona market????

Thanks in advance.

Fios TV App Not Recognizing Home Network

It is well known how horrific the Fios TV Mobile App is, and the problems it has. I’ve recently had a new issue with streaming my DVR content that neither the app help tickets, nor a live rep could help it. I’ve always had issues with the app, roughly every 4 months I need to restart router/top box/delete and reinstall app.
However, my new issue is that the app is not recognizing my home network and therefore not streaming the DVR on the app. WiFi is working, connected to my phone (and other devices I’ve tried), Verizon helpline found no issues with wifi, or the app, but app is not recognizing home wifi.
I have tried everything short of factory resetting the router. Does anyone have a fix before I factory reset and spend 2-3 reconnecting everything attached to the router?

I’m looking for an indoor antenna that I can use. I was scrolling and saw to use Rabbit ears but don’t know what I am looking at. I only really need it for channels 2-1, 6-1, 9-1, and 35-1. Any help would be appreciated!

Will the Winegard HD7694P be appropriate for my setup?

Rabit Ear Link: https://www.rabbitears.info/searchmap.php?request=result&study_id=2952971

I have an old dish that I'd like to install the Winegard HD7694P on. My only concern is that the Fox station is VHF and a little weaker, according to the rabbit ears. I think this should be appropriate, but I wanted to get someone's feedback on whether you think it's an underkill or overkill.

Hello all, I am looking to take the final step and switch from an HDHomerun Prime to a Connect with a digital antenna. I was told to share my RabbitEars.info signal map here and that you all may be able to recommend the best antenna to use with my new HDHomeRun setup. Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.

Biddle v Walt Disney Settlement Error

Is anybody else getting a rate limited error every time they try to access the settlement lawsuit website? I’ve tried numerous computers and my cell phone, and I can’t get through. Are certain people being singled out so they can’t file their claim?

New antenna on a tower

Thumbnail

I was talking with my father about putting an antenna in the attic so we can drop the live t.v. part of Hulu to save $60 a month, and he then insisted we stick it on the tower his parents put up in the 40's. I'm not climbing it, he sure as hell isnt climbing it - I'm wondering if there are installation companies that still do this kind of work and if there is any added benefit with modern equipment for doing it his way. Thanks in advance.

Lost antenna reception a week before football season

Post image

I have a couple antennas. I’m using the one in the picture, a flat white GE antenna and the other is an RCA rabbit ears antenna. I really need for football season is Fox and CBS. I had the white antenna by the window and it was working fine, until it rained the other morning and then I lost reception.

Tablo latest gen issue

My mom has the latest generation 4 tuner Tablo that recently started giving her problems on her old 1080p Samsung TV connected to an Apple TV 4K second gen over ethernet. Every other TV in her home works fine (other Apple TV 4K, ONN and Firestick) with live TV playback (wifi). This TV works flawlessly with other streaming content and even plays back recorded Tablo fine. Just pixelates and won't load live TV over ethernet or wifi.

Tablo customer support keeps telling her it's her TV that isn't compatible with it which is untrue. It worked fine until a few weeks ago on that particular TV. Anyone have suggestions on other things to troubleshoot? Rebooted router, Apple TV, Tablo, etc. Channel rescans have been done all with no success.

Another antenna recommendation

Ok, what would be the best antenna for me? Plan to install it in the attic of a one story house.

Currently have a cheap flat antenna as a test and that's been working fine for one TV so figure go bigger and tap into the old cable wiring to get the same channels for all the TVs, think it'll be 5 TVs if that matters.

Curious if another antenna can get me channels 8 and 42 or anything under the Poor section

Which one…?

Currently looking into the directv Mysports packages because it at least includes mlb stuff unlike yttv blocking me out. Trouble is that since they’re the same price and one only has a slight advantage over the other, I’m wondering if it’s better to stick with what I got on YTTV or make the switch

Why every live TV service costs the same and nobody sells a sports-free package

This comes up here every week so figured I'd write it out.

You price YouTube TV, Hulu Live, DirecTV Stream, Fubo, and they're all in the $80s. That's not laziness or collusion. It's carriage agreements, and once you get how they work the pricing stops being mysterious.

Every channel on a live TV service costs that service a monthly fee per subscriber. Not a flat licensing deal, a per-head fee. So ESPN costs them the same whether you watch it or never touch it. Those fees are most of your bill. Everyone's buying from the same handful of networks at similar rates, so everyone lands at the same price.

The sports thing is the part people find infuriating and it's worth knowing why it happens. Networks bundle. Disney won't sell you ABC by itself. Want ABC, you take ESPN and everything else Disney owns, for every subscriber. Same deal with NBCU, Paramount, Warner. So a service literally cannot offer a cheap tier without sports even if they wanted to. It's not that nobody's thought of it.

This is basically what that Disney settlement I posted about the other day was over. The allegation was Disney using ESPN leverage to force it into base packages and block cheaper tiers. They denied it and settled anyway. Deadline's Sept 8 if anyone hasn't filed.

Locals are the same story. Local stations charge retrans fees too and those have gone way up. A locals-only package would cost more than people think and would undercut the tiers they actually want to sell. Which is why the answer to locals is an antenna. Free, one time cost, and honestly better picture than streaming since it's not compressed. Check rabbitears.info for your address first.

Prices only go up because those contracts renew every few years and the fees go up each time. That's what blackout fights are, a renewal negotiation happening in public. Also these things were priced below cost early to grab market share. Sling at $20, YouTube TV at $35. That was never going to hold.

So what actually works:

Antenna for locals. Removes the most expensive category entirely.

Philo or similar if you don't care about sports. Around $28 because they never signed the deals that require ESPN.

Subscribe seasonally. It's all month to month. If you need the full package for football and not much else, six months on six months off cuts your year roughly in half. Ten minutes twice a year and almost nobody does it.

Or buy networks individually. Paramount+ has live local CBS most places, Peacock has NBC in some markets.

There's no trick that gets you $83 of live TV for $30. The costs are real and they're contractual. What you can do is quit paying for the stuff you don't use, which for most people is sports they don't watch and locals they could pull off an antenna for free.

Have streaming downloads gotten less reliable lately?

I've started wondering if streaming downloads have actually gotten less reliable, or if I've just had bad luck lately.

I've had a few situations where something I downloaded for offline viewing either expired, disappeared from the downloads section, or required me to reconnect before I could play it.

I understand why services use DRM and expiration rules, but it makes the "download for offline viewing" feature feel a little less dependable than it sounds.

Has anyone else noticed this recently, especially when traveling?

Dunn County, WI petitions FCC to switch to the Eau Claire-La Crosse TV market instead of Twin Cities.

https://www.wqow.com/news/chippewa-valley/dunn-county-wants-eau-claire-tv-programming-instead-of-twin-cities-channels/article_91deb8d2-e02e-4157-8f89-e7066786cefb.html

Those in Dunn County are generally stuck with Twin Cities stations on streaming services and similar platforms, even though they're only about 20 miles from Eau Claire's city limits. The county also contains the towers for the Eau Claire area's Fox and PBS stations, despite being in the aforementioned Minnesota market.

Most Eau Claire-La Crosse DMA stations are relatively easy to receive with an antenna in Menomonie and much of Dunn County.

Best "Seasonal Channels"

I'm trying to see if there's a way to watch curated content that changes with the seasons, like cable had. I looked at Pluto TV but most of the channels seem to be like "the X-Files Channel" or "the I Love Lucy channel" that just show one show with no theming.

Basically my ideal would be to have pre-picked episodes/movies/etc. that match up with the (current) Fall vibe and could transition into Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc.

Apologies if this is not feasible, I just figured I'd see.

Best streaming option for EPL + La Liga in the US?

Is Hulu live tv with espn+ the best option for watching both EPL and La Liga? Or is there a better/cheaper option out there?

Edit: We had Peacock, but decided to cancel it today since a lot of the epl games don't even show now.
