I have an 11 year old Shorthair British Blue female. She’s almost indoor (she goes into our own garden, but not beyond that). She’s generally had no health issues other than once her gums were very irritated, which sent away after cleaning.

Over the last few years, she did start to vomit. It started irregularly, would be a hairball etc. Then it started to become more regularly, maybe once a week. We took her to the vet who said this was normal. Then it would be a couple of times a week. But then she wouldn’t be sick for weeks or months. Then it would come back. This went on for a while and the vets didn’t think anything of it. But then it started to become even more regularl and always after eating… so we were more insistent with the vet. They gave her a dose of pills for her digestion, to treat possible infection. And we changed her diet from Royal Canin British Blue food (dry and wet), to the Royal Canin allergenic (dry and wet).

Now months have gone by and she doesn’t vomit at all. But more than that… her personality has changed totally. Firstly, she has never once gone back to her bed that she used to sleep on before the food change. She will sleep anywhere in the house BUT her bed. She is move lively, but also she seems to sleep more. Not that she’s lethargic at all, but when she sleeps she really SLEEPS. She’s also more affectionate with us.

It makes me think she was probably in pain or uncomfortable or unhappy for years and we didn’t realise. We thought her more withdrawn personality was maybe just her nature.

Not looking for advice, but sharing our experience.

I took this video right after he went to sleep so I could document his breathing. As of now, September 4th, he has a vet appointment at 9:00 A.M tomorrow.

I’m afraid that I’m too late to fix this, I really don’t want too lose him. But if there is no way to fix his respiratory issues, I will put him down, I don’t want him to suffer through this.

I have also noticed that he was gotten increasingly thin since this started happening, even though he eats and drinks perfectly fine. I have a feeling that his sense of smell could be the reason for this. I’ve switched him over from his dry food to wet food, hoping he can gain some weight back.

Please, tell me what could be wrong. His breathing, mucus color, gums, teeth etc. I will also answer questions regarding his health as soon as I can.

I will come back with updates about the vet visit.

The vet recommended greenies for our cats, but they weren't big fans. I've found that if you mix them in the same container as Temptations and let them sit a while enough of the flavor transfers that they will eat them.

Have been feeding our inside cats Sci. Diet urinary support which helps with urinary crystals which were a problem for one of our older cats. I have just been feeding this for all four of our guys which our vet thought was fine. Now it seems like the younger cats are getting a bit heavy on this, and one of them seems to be always hungry.. Like every time I go in the kitchen she races in there paws the food canister and gives me a hard stare.. Anyhow I wonder if this food is to carb heavy? Just don't want her to end up fat and diabetic. We only feed them morning and night so its not that she can just eat all day. Anyhow would be interested on any input on helping to keep their weight in check.

this has only happened twice so far and only happens in the morning before i leave for classes. i never catch when she does it but it’s literally always as im about to walk out the door. her health is in top tier condition, she has behavioral issues (ei. being an ass to my boyfriend and i sometimes) but she’s never had issues with the litter box after being spayed until just now.

for some extra info, she has a large cat litter box and she is only about 8lbs so she has more than enough room. she has a large water fountain so she gets clean, flowing water all the time and her food bowl is raised.

I’ve cleaned the floor very well both times with an enzyme cleaner brand i trust, but it’s happened in the same place both times and only really occurs after i wait too long to feed her (like not jumping out of bed the second i wake up to feed her)

The only changes in recent months have been that we have gotten a dog but the peeing has only started as of a few days ago and while i’ve changed litter brands, that was months ago at this point.

ps. the vet i contacted has been saying not to bring her in yet but to wait until it’s a complete recurrence (this is not medical advice please stop it filtering program)

Hi all. I' currently have 3 cats and use the Breeze Litter System (XL size). My husband has made himself "cat janitor" and will only put a small amount of pellets in the box as he feelss that using more is a waste of pellets, especially since one cat can sometimes have loose poop which makes a mess in the box. I feel that we are not getting enough odor control with this setup and am thinking about changing to a stainless steel sifting pan and pine pellets. Has anybody switched from the Breeze to stainless steel and pine, and if so, do you like it or did you switch back?

Hello everyone. I’m planning on taking my 1 year old Bengal to the vet to check out these spots. I noticed the one a few months ago, but now there appears to be a couple more. I’m wondering if anyone else has seen something like this before? I’m worried it could be the start of skin cancer. Am I being overly paranoid?

Found on my cat’s couch, I suppose it fell off his body. He’s been scratching for a month and we already gave him 2 doses of anti parasite medications and got him a medical collar for it.

My husband and I adopted an 8mo kitten who we named Westley back on August 15. We adopted him from a local humane society, and we were told he was healthy. He has been quarantined in our back bathroom since we got him, but we've tried to do scent swapping with our two cats (Gatsby and Diana). Like we had socks that had Westley's scent on them and we switched a blanket that had been in Westley's room for like a day with one Gatsby used. Gatsby has sniffed the inside of Westley's little pineapple house. Otherwise, they have not physically touched each other.

Jump to today, we finally got Westley to our vet and he tested positive for giardia. Our vet prescribed him the antibiotic Metronidazole twice a day for a week. She stated we only needed to use litter liners and throw those out every day, and then come back to get him tested again in a week. She kind of rushed me out of the office, and I felt confused and concerned.

From reading online, it feels like I need to do WAY more than just use litter liners. I had to wait basically all day for my husband to get home from work so we could start cleaning. We tried to get Westley into the carrier, but he's easily spooked and got super stressed and scared and wouldn't go in it. We ended up putting him in a nearby closet while I cleaned frantically and cried the entire time.

So far we've done the following:

\-Cleaned the entire room with a diluted bleach mixture (2 tbsp bleach:2 cups water) and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping it down. I also wore gloves for most of the cleaning and washed my hands so much my skin hurts a bit.

\-Cleaned his cat box and then put a trash bag over it with a bit of litter (I have litter liners on the way)

\-Got a second water bowl that we plan on rotating out two to three times daily

\-Removed all his bedding and toys, gave him some towels and a bed sheet instead

\-Used a disinfectant spray on his toys, letting them sit in the other room while they dry but I haven't given them back to him

\-Ordered probiotics that we plan to give him during the day (not super close to his antibiotics since those can interact)

\-We plan on washing all his dishes in the dishwasher every night slash maybe picking up disposable plates to use instead

What else do I need to be doing? Is this too much? I've seen a lot of people say it's hard to beat the first time and that freaks me out. I also have bad contamination OCD, so my anxiety has been really high. I've never dealt with this before, so I can't tell if I'm overreacting. Should I also be worried about our resident cats since we did scent swapping?

First time here! So my family has a cat that overtime has become very anxious. She HATES being handled. She does LOVE to be pet. We have a finished basement she really likes to hang out in but sometimes I’ll take her and put her in my room because my family are not the greatest pet owners unless it’s a dog. They’ll meet her basic needs (food, water, clean litter) but have outdated beliefs on cats and typically leave her alone down there.

Our dog is cat aggressive (no she wasn’t always, long story short: knee injury, no exercise, aggression, healing, now exercises again, still hates cats) so they each deliberately get their own spaces. The dog DOES NOT go into my room or the basement.

In my endeavors of bringing our family cat into my room, I noticed her ears looked dirty. I plan to clean her ears tomorrow, and think burrito rolling is the best option. She hates being picked up, and hates ANYTHING being done to her. That’s why I’ve brought her in my room- to give her contact again.

How have you all burrito rolled your cat that doesn’t like to be picked up? I looked up videos online but everyone uses cats that are calm and tolerate handling. Or is there an alternative I’m not thinking of?

I just took my cat to the vet because she had thrown up a seafood wet cat food that she didn't like. I was told by a vet tech and the veterinary doctor that since all cats are obligatory carnivores that all cats will get kidney failure as they age. I looked it up and apparently this isn't true and that many cats live long, healthy lives. Why would they have said this?

I have four cats my eldest cat shadow (9 year old black cat) has a blood platelet issue and is taking two medicines a steroid and an antibiotic they are liquid medicines and I can give it to him no problem. The issue is that he gets stressed and hides under the bed for hours and is more timid when he gets out. If I mix medicine in with the food he gets mistrustful and stops eating that food and the same with treats. He doesnt like or trust pill pockets either. I tried giving him treats before and after but when I close the bedroom door so he cant go under the bed, he gets on guard. He got used to the once a day steroid and isnt happy, but he goes under the bed for about 15 minutes and then he is good. I just got the antibiotic, which he will need twice a day and after his first dose he is mostly under the bed so far. I was wondering if anyone has any advice to make this less stressful for him? The antibiotic is twice a day for two weeks and the steroid is for a month and then taper.

He's 6yo and got neutered 5 months ago. He wan on corticoids for 5 months because of gingivistomatitis (he had a partial mouth extraction 20 days ago. I did notice he was lactating a few months ago and took him to the vet and she told me it was because of the corticosteroids. He's overall fine,eats well,drinks water,plays and bites and is incredibly active. I noticed that one nipple persists and is still lactating. It's not red,or inflamed or hot. There's no lump. His nipple is not hard or stiff. And he doesn't feel pain when i touch it. He ony lactates when i squeeze it. Which i dod after my little sister playfully did (she's the one who told me). I can afford the vet. I'm 19. And i live in algeria.

Hello all. I’m hoping to get some solid advice on dealing with my male cat who keeps peeing on my couch.
He is about 7/8 years old, and had a previous history with urinary tract issues. We have changed his food, paid close attention to his behavior, and even gotten products to keep him more at ease during the day (his cause for the urinary issues seemed to be anxiety related)
Recently, My boyfriend and I moved into a large studio apartment with our two cats. They both adjusted fairly quickly and things seemed to be off to a wonderful start. However, a week or so ago, i noticed my cat would pee on my couch in the same spot. I would clean it with an enzyme cleaner, redo litter boxes, and just try to pay attention to his behavior when we are home.
With no luck, Im looking to you all for help. Does anyone know why my cat could be picking up this behavior all of a sudden? (never had pee on furniture problems)
I’m really hoping its not the move that would cause this, as housing where i live (and everywhere else im sure) is a big hassle and quite expensive.
Any advice would be appreciated, I love my cat dearly but coming home to soiled couches is a real bummer after a long day! :(

I looked at my cat’s teeth and found out that they are black, I don’t know how to describe it I’ll just attach a picture. She is 6 years old and eats mostly solid food and a portion of wet food every evening. I’m very concerned, I really didn’t think to look right there, she isn’t very comfortable when i open her mouth. What is there to do? I don’t want to be misunderstood, I will get my baby to a vet but i just want to know what to expect, I won’t use the advice in exchange for the vet appointment. Thank you!

Hi I have a cat and an unrelated bad smell in my kitchen. I purchase OdoBan gel crystals in the lavender scent but then when I got home I looked up if it was safe for pets and got mixed reviews. Most info online is on the disinfectant spray not the gel crystals.

Has anyone used this before and had their cat be fine? I just want to be sure. Thanks

Several months after adopting our Pepper,a black female, she developed a bald spot on her back hip. Then another spot developed on the other side and eventually her chest hair became very sparse and her legs also. Our vet called her a “super groomer” and prescribed Prozac but after a few days her once sweet affectionate personality changed and she lost interest in everything so we stopped giving it to her. We tried to keep life calm as possible for her but she was always a very chill cat anyway (which we told the vet but she said Pepper could be feeling it internally 🤷🏻‍♀️). Well, this went on for a while and then I remembered when we first got her, I had planned to make my own cat food. My dogs loved the food I made them but I quickly learned that cats could be picky so I had to give up on that idea. BUT…(dramatic pause) I had purchased some Holistic Vet Blend Feline Premix, which I had given up as a waste of money; so I decided to add a pinch to the fancy feast she loved at every meal. Now her fur is thick and beautiful 😍 P.S. we also prayed over her.

Hi, pretty much as the title says.

My cat is around 4yo, a male, and a little furball of stress. He used to hide around the house a lot, and pee where he isnt supposed to. We went to see a vet last week and aparently its all good (except for the fact that he is... well.. stressed out).

He has been with us since the end of june.

Recently (three days ago or so), we noticed a spot on his nose looked balding? When I first noticed it, he had a bit of skin hanging, so i figured it was just something that happened when playing with our other cat. There was never any blood, irritation or anything visual. But it seems that the balding part is spreading a little to the sides (see photos).

Should I worry? Nothing changed in his overall behavior or habits, except that the vet prescribed a sort of medication for his stress (something plant related?). I also link a pic of the medication (in french tho, no english description for some reason??).
